Trig Modern

Trig: adj. [British dialect] Smart and trim, as in lifestyle, neat. Stylishly fashionable, up-to-date, modish.

Today, people live with a mix of furnishings: Grandma’s antique dresser, a mid-century lamp found on eBay, a leather sofa you actually splurged on. It’s a metaphor of our lives -- an expression of personal style and experiences.

Trig Modern’s showroom provides a portrait for sensible living -- an antidote to excess, formality and convention. Classic modern furniture rests comfortably beside new modern accessories and iconic items from the mid-20th century. A wide array of modern light fixtures and ceiling fans hang from the ceiling. A wall of colorful pillows, many designed by Trig’s owner, Bob Drake, gazes down upon modern area rugs on the floor.

Our Design Center serves up samples of Trig Modern’s delightfully modern wall coverings and upholstery choices, including a line specifically for apartment dwellers.

At Trig Modern, we believe in a thoughtful approach to modern interiors and furnishings that emphasizes the imagination and comfort of real people living real lives. Drop in sometime. We look forward to meeting you!

Trying to find contemporary furniture is very frustrating. I saw a picture of what I wanted, got in touch with the manufacturer and was referred to TrigModern in Raleigh. The minute I drove into the parking lot, I knew this was my store! I met with Bob Drake(an absolute delight), who spent a lot of time configuring the sofa to work in my space—-and with a lot of patience and persistence, he came up with the perfect design. I will not shop anywhere else!

And the icing on the cake, his showroom is like a work of art, so worth going to see.

What a pleasure it was to work with Ann Marie furnishing our new-construction modern house! She is diligent, attentive, upbeat, confident, and professional...and with impeccable good taste! More important, she listens. We worked together purchasing wonderful new pieces from her treasure trove of resources, repurposing several “given” pieces...even incorporating the occasional thrift store find for “character” (aka budget)! Thank you, Ann Marie!

We faced a significant design challenge when we purchased and renovated a mid-century modern home. We loved the modern aesthetic but we had always lived in and decorated more traditional homes. Our renovated modern home was gorgeous, but much of our furniture just didn’t work in the space. We wanted to modernize our decor, but didn’t have the budget to replace everything we owned. We engaged Ann Marie and she made an immediate positive impact. She quickly evaluated what we had, what our budget was and got a sense of how we live in the space. She took the time to assess what we liked and didn’t like and put together multiple concepts for how we could change the design. Ultimately she designed a living space that used our existing couches and entertainment unit, but added new furniture, lighting and pillows to pull the whole room together. It not only looks great but it is also entirely functional for the way we live, and it was within our budget. She also addressed a design mistake we had made in our dining room. We purchased a table that was a bit undersized for the room. Instead of suggesting we buy a new one, she leveraged design techniques to make it work visually.

Ultimately, she transformed our living room and dining room into something you might see in a magazine. We loved the result so much, we engaged her to do similar work in our master bedroom. She did an amazing job there as well- finding window treatments, pillows and art that turned the room from bland to gorgeous. When you work with Ann Marie you get the benefit of her excellent taste, knowledge of design and trends, genuine consideration for your lifestyle and budget, and most importantly you get confidence. Unlike doing it alone, you never second guess the decisions you make when you work with her.

I first met Ann Marie Baum in mid-2005 as Architect in-charge of Design and Project Management for the Condominiums at Hudson, located in downtown Raleigh. I came to her with a challenge and a request: assist me to enhance the design of common spaces—inside and out—with a coordinated concept for furniture, art, fixtures and finishes; enhance Hudson’s branding concept through a ‘modern-urban’ aesthetic; provide full design, management and delivery and installation services based on opening sales dates; prepare and negotiate a leasing plan for the Developer including buy-out options for the Owner based on their budget.

Working with Ann Marie on Hudson exceeded my high expectations. Simply put; she ‘got it’ and she ‘handled it’.

Her innate design talent, genteel management style and inquisitive nature calmed realtor anxiety, unforeseen cost overruns, shipping errors and delivery problems. I have come to trust Ann Marie’s instinctual sensitivity, treasure her engaging personality and rely on her sophisticated observations. She remains someone I consider accountable, ethical and a great problem solver.

Ann Marie was (and is) DESIGN and BUSINESS savvy—a rare combination.

Ann Marie requested sponsorships from her vendors and creatively declared Hudson her ‘satellite showroom,’ providing additional savings to the Owner (and by the way, unsolicited.) In addition, she coordinated and oversaw delivery and placement of all furniture and light fixtures and rallied her local artist friends to install their work on rotational loan. Hell, I think she even drove the truck.
